Tell Me..

untitled, 1997, 11″ x 11″ x 4″, m/m

“Tell me two things you like about me,” I said to my friend last night as we rode in his convertible to go see a famous storyteller.

I know.. it sounds truly pathetic..

I actually only do this with him because we are such good friends and I know he loves me.

… and his tolerance level is high.

“Why?” he says.

“Because I feel insecure today.”

With a sigh he says: “I like your eyes.”

Then: “You can laugh at yourself. That’s good. I like that.”

I say: “OK… two more…”

“Two MORE?” he says.

“Well… You say what you feel.”

For the life of me I can NOT remember the last thing he said..

I want to remember.

I need to remember.

It is good to have tolerant friends.

    Your heart, your intimacy.

    without a sigh,
    your blossoming maturity, your femininity

““Tell me two things you like about me,” I said….”

No, that’s not pathetic. That’s courageous and spirited. Also, a demonstration of what you want to uphold in yourself — something good.
